Bargain-hunting car buyers are expected to step up their search for a new car on the day after Boxing Day – with traffic on car buying website whatcar.com tipped to spike by 130% as more than 90,000 people a day turn to the website to review and buy their next car.
As the festive hangover lifts, the surge in car buyers on the renowned car-buying website builds from December 27 through to March, when number-plates change and new car sales peak for the year.
During that time more than 90,000 people a day will visit whatcar.com in order to research and buy their next car, making the website a Wembley-sized showroom as buyers seek out the best cars and biggest bargains.
Whatcar.com’s data suggests that the majority of festive buyers will be researching premium brands first, with Audi and BMW the most searched for brands during the holiday period last year. Volkswagen, Nissan, Skoda and Ford were also popular.
Despite this upmarket surge in interest in premium car brands in the wake of Christmas, buyers are also expected to be hunting out the keenest bargains, with whatcar.com’s new car sales area listing more than 100,000 offers available to its readers.
In anticipation of this year’s post-yuletide spike, What Car? has revealed the best new car deals available on its website, including a whopping 20.7% discount off an Audi A7 3.0 Tdi Quattro 272 Black Edition S Tronic.

Steve Huntingford, Editor of What Car? said: “While many sales shoppers prefer not to brave the cold and crowds to battle for a bargain after Christmas, whatcar.com has made browsing for a new car quicker and easier than ever before – including being able to shop between brands and dealers and for the best prices, without the need to haggle.
“There have been some great new cars launched in recent months, and with new car sales slowing in the UK there are some incredibly tempting offers out there, including on the cars rated as the very best by our reviewers. Our data shows that the 27 December is the most popular day in December for shoppers looking for a discounted deal on a new car – and that the interest builds from there.”
