Third major addition to Stroock’s Private Client Services Group this year; brings sophisticated estate planning and administration, wealth transfer and business succession practice
Making yet another noteworthy addition this year to its leading Private Client Services Group, Stroock announced that experienced private clients lawyer Shifra Herzberg has joined the New York office as Special Counsel.
Ms. Herzberg, who arrives from Greenberg Traurig, LLP, follows fellow Special Counsel Sharon Soloff, who joined the Private Client Services Group in February, and Jay Scharf, who joined Stroock’s Private Client team as an associate in April.
Ms. Herzberg focuses on sophisticated estate planning, estate administration and business succession planning for high-net-worth individuals and families. She advises clients on multi-generational wealth transfer strategies and provides comprehensive tax counsel with regard to gift, estate, and generation-skipping transfer tax, tax-efficient disposition of assets and charitable giving. She is also involved in the formation and administration of private foundations.
“Shifra Herzberg is a highly accomplished trusts and estates lawyer who has built a thriving practice handling complex estate planning issues in connection with individuals, families, foundations and businesses,” said Anita Rosenbloom, head of Stroock’s Private Client Services Group.
She continued, “At this time of dynamic change in the tax code and increasing vigor in the economy, it is critical to have sure-handed and far-seeing guidance on tax- and estate-planning and wealth transfer and business succession issues. She is a terrific fit for our practice, and we are delighted that she is bringing her experience and capabilities to Stroock.”
Kevin Matz, a partner in Stroock’s Private Client Services Group, added, “I have worked extensively with Shifra in leadership roles in the New York State Trusts and Estates Bar, and adding Shifra to our team at this critical juncture allows us to even further intensify the tremendous estate and tax planning services that we provide to our clients.”
On her move to Stroock Ms. Herzberg said, “For tax and estate planners this is both a challenging and exciting time, as clients depend on us even more for timely and wise readings of the new tax structure and its implications for the assets they have built. I’m very pleased to join a practice with the resources and outstanding track record of Stroock’s Private Client Services Group as the firm guides its clients through these demanding times.”
Ms. Herzberg earned her J.D., with concentrations in tax and corporate law, from Benjamin Cardozo School of Law, where she was a Dean’s Scholar. She received an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law. She graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from Thomas Edison State College in New Jersey.
Stroock’s Private Client Services Group advises clients on estate planning and related tax work, including estate administration, succession planning for family businesses and charitable giving. Many of the firm’s private client relationships have spanned generations. Members of the group have served as longtime co-authors of Manning on Estate Planning, a leading treatise used by private wealth advisers nationally, and are nationally recognized leaders and advocates in the Trust and Estate Bar, serving in leadership positions both in the New York State Bar Association and in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC).
