The Legal 500 guide, the world’s leading independent authority on the best law firms and lawyers in the UK, has recommended London solicitors Joelson across a number of categories in its latest 2017 edition.

Prepared each year by a dedicated team of researchers, the guide is the go-to reference point for in-house counsel, businesses and clients looking to find the best legal advisers.

The guide is produced using recommendations and testimonials from clients who work with the firms being considered for listing.

Joelson has achieved listings in the guide for a number of years, success which it has replicated in 2017 with recognition across six different legal service categories in London.

The firm’s Corporate and Commercial team has been recognised for its success in assisting firms with mergers and acquisitions. The guide refers to the “absolutely superb” team having been especially active recently in the leisure and food and beverage sectors.

The team has been recommended for the M&A: Smaller Deals, up to £50m category, which lists partners Paul Chiappe, Phil Hails-Smith, Sheldon Cordell and Philippa Sturt as ‘Recommended Lawyers’.

For its employment services, Joelson has been recognised with rankings for its work with employers and also with Senior Executives, recommending partners David Greenhalgh and Jennifer Maxwell-Harris.

Jo Gregory, Head of Litigation, is also listed in the guide as a Recommended Lawyer alongside her department for its work in Commercial Litigation.

The guide states that the litigation team at Joelson “understands clients’ businesses well, making for quick, informed advice.”

Joelson’s leading Licensing, Gambling and Regulatory team, which is joint-led by Partners Niall McCann and Richard Williams, is also ranked by the guide.

The guide says that the team enjoys a “breadth of expertise” including “betting, gaming and lotteries law, regulatory matters and licensing”, and has clients that include a “wide mix of nightclubs, casinos, lotteries and betting companies”. It also recommends Niall as a ‘Leading Individual’ for his influential role in the industry.

Speaking on behalf of all of the listed departments at Joelson, Managing Partner Phil Hails-Smith said: “We are absolutely delighted to once again be listed in so many categories within this year’s prestigious Legal 500 guide.

“This places us alongside some of London and the UK’s largest firms, many of whom have offices around the world with far bigger teams.

“The recognition that Legal 500 offers has proven extremely influential in the past, with clients using it when choosing our expertise over bigger and much more expensive firms, we intend capitalising on our success within the guide during the next 12 months.”
