Crown Agents Bank Appoints Richard Weald as its new CTO

Crown Agents Bank has appointed Richard Weald as its new Chief Technology Officer. Weald will oversee the Bank’s use of technology to align and enhance operational processes, client due-diligence and on-boarding, risk management, and further enhance Crown Agents Bank’s product strategy.

Weald brings over 20 years of financial markets expertise and technological know-how to the Bank. He joins from Earthport, a provider of foreign exchange and cross-border payment services, where he served as Global Head of IT Operations & Information Security. Weald previously held a number of senior positions within Technology and Information Security at Newedge, a global multi-asset brokerage, wholly acquired by Société Générale in 2014. At both organisations, Weald implemented technology transformation programmes to accommodate rapid high-volume growth whilst enhancing resiliency and control frame-works.

“My first task will be to ensure that the Bank presses on successfully with its technology initiatives and programmes,” says Weald. “I also look forward to outlining a long-term technology roadmap for delivering the digital processes and solutions our stakeholders and customers require. Developing technological resilience is the key – that means both building the Bank’s own capacity whilst ensuring we partner with the right technology driven organisations.”

Crown Agents Bank’s CEO Albert Maasland comments:“We’re a 200-year-old bank that is looking more and more like a fintech. Over the past year, we have put in place cutting-edge technology that allows us to offer currencies and FX payments in and out of a range of frontier and emerging markets quickly and efficiently. Now, with Richard’s expertise, we can improve the customer experience yet further, grow volumes, and improve operational efficiency and compliance procedures.”

Having recently launched its online FX trading platform, EMpowerFX, and on-boarded trade finance fintech platform CCRManagerand cross-asset portal360TCrown Agents Bank is focused on becoming a fully digital transaction bank for emerging markets.

Weald adds: “As an agile and nimble player, Crown Agents Bank can make decisions and execute quickly whilst maintaining multiple opportunities to grow. Digitalisation helps us achieve our goal of securely expanding our commercial and central bank clients’ access to global markets and developing greater connectivity within and across borders. I am excited to play a part in the Bank’s ongoing transformation.”
