CLINTON SAYS OBAMA ON ‘FIRM’ GROUND ON IMMIGRATION

KEN THOMAS,Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — Former President Bill Clinton says every U.S. president in the modern era has issued some type of executive order on immigration, and he suggests that President Barack Obama is on “pretty firm legal footing.”

The former president spoke on the eve of Obama’s scheduled announcement of executive actions that could spare as many as 5 million immigrants from being deported from the U.S.

Clinton said at a gala event Wednesday celebrating 100 years of The New Republic that the world is more interdependent and nations like the United States need to define the terms of its interdependence.

He joked that nobody cares what ex-presidents say unless your wife might run for office. Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is considering a White House campaign in 2016.
