Workers injured after methane ignites at Polish mine

WARSAW (Reuters) - Workers are being evacuated from a mine in southern Poland after methane ignited, operator JSW said on Wednesday.

"An operation to evacuate workers from the area is underway," JSW said in a statement regarding events at the Knurow-Szczyglowice Ruch Szczyglowice coal mine.

Some 44 people were in the area where the gas ignited, 10 of whom were injured, Aleksander Chowaniec, deputy head of the State Mining Authority, told state-run broadcaster TVP Info.

He said victims suffered burns but the severity of the injuries was not yet known.

An air ambulance was sent to the site, local media reported.

JSW shares were down 3.1% at 1000 GMT.
